כׇּל הָעוֹמֵד לַחְתּוֹךְ
On this daf, Rava admits: "the scholars of Pumbedita know the reason" — and the Gemara hammers out four chains of argument, ending on a limb that stands to be cut. You are the apprentice in the forge-house of Pumbedita. Rebuild each sugya link by link: at every step, three bars of iron sit on the anvil — only one is the true next link. Strike well.

וְכׇל הָעוֹמֵד לַחְתּוֹךְ —
Here the daf ends. Mid-sentence. The hammer is raised and the page is cut: the last three words, כְּחָתוּךְ דָּמֵי ("is regarded as already cut"), wait at the top of tomorrow's daf, Chullin 73a. A daf about severed connections, severed by the printer — the daf's own chain stands to be cut.

Every link above is straight from the Gemara. Chullin 72 opens by asking why the midwife of yesterday's mishna is impure at all (answer: a rabbinic decree, reported by Rav Yosef of Pumbedita in Shmuel's name); derives Rabbi Yishmael and Rabbi Akiva's dispute from the verses of Numbers 19; brings a new mishna about an animal in hard labor whose fetus extends a foreleg — where everything hangs on whether the knife of slaughter came before or after the severing knife; and closes by asking how the severed limb can defile the fetus at all, when they touched only in בֵּית הַסְּתָרִים — a hidden place. Ulla and Ravina each forge an answer, and Ravina's principle is cut off by the end of the page itself.
